The Ministry Development Centre Online or MDC Online was established in January 1998, as a way to provide affordable, accessible education for those sensing a call to prepare for Christian Ministry. We provide the education and training requirements necessary for ordination in the Church of the Nazarene, as well as offer an educational opportunity for individuals from other faith traditions.
Why is this kind of program needed?
- Competent and Spirit Filled clergy persons are needed for Canada right now. These leaders need to have a 'missional mindset' and a deep desire to see people enter the Kingdom of God.
- We also recognize that a second career person who answers the call to vocational ministry requires a flexible training schedule that will accommodate their desire to work full-time and pursue this call to ministry. Many of these people have established families and homes, and must work to support their family while answering the call to minister.
- We also recognized a need to offer this educational opportunity to low income individuals and youth who are considering a possible career in ministry.
- Each course/ module is a college level course and is relatively inexpensive. We further emphasize the convenience of not having to leave your present lifestyle.
The MDC presently offers three different areas of study. The main track is the Vocational/Elder Track, the second is the Certificate of Lay Ministry Track, and thirdly, a Satellite Sunday School Track which is presently being developed to provide solid Nazarene materials for churches to use. The online courses are designed to be taken in community at a teaching pod location, with a pod facilitator, or can be done individually through the Individual Study Option.
